Subconsciously Sawyer looked around the room following Tony Stark's suggestion that her phone might be someplace similar to where he'd found his FitBit too. If it was, that was pretty damn careless of their determined hosts to leave something so vital as a phone like that lying around in the rooms where their captives could find it―something Geoff was certainly explaining as well. Unless she'd just leave the phones lying around cause there isn't any cell service out here anyway, the brunette went on to add to herself as she scowled at the very obviously empty room.
She had her fair share of experience in that department to know (given the view outside their windows) that the chances of that were high. And a quick look around the room brought a similar and unsurprising result. Okay, so there was no phone, and no roommate. Not really a shocker there, as disappointing as it was. At the very least she noticed some kind of check? resting on top of a box. 'November 2019', she read, noting the mention of furniture on the paper. Aside from that it didn't say much else (that she could read, anyway, with the paper fading out) and it unfortunately didn't have any kind of name on it either. However it was clearly the bitch who'd bought them here that had ordered it all; the brunette had been in the exact room it was sent to and what was in it. The only person who'd dare to buy all that overly-fancy, fake ass furniture would be the psychotic landlord herself.
Scrunching her nose, Sawyer put the check in her pocket for safekeeping. So has that bitch been prepping this place since last November? She held in a shiver at the thought as she returned to where Geoff was―of course empty-handed. Oh well - lack of phones aside, the fact that others had found their personal items lying around meant there was at least a chance they'd find something useful! No matter how small that might be. And that check was a small piece of the puzzle the brunette appreciated compared to the long list of information she didn't have.
The date made sense with her and Ethan's theory about being stalked for a while beforehand; with how much that bitch seemed to know about them and their social circles and daily patterns, it was likely she'd been stalking them for a longggg time. And that check clearly proved that she'd been planning this for at least half a year―possibly even longer. It was a step in the right direction in piecing together information about this place. And she was damn well eager to cling onto any small resemblance of a plan or hopeful opportunity of escaping.
After all she was too terrified to think of what the most likely outcome would be if they didn't...
"I'd definitely not complain if it was though!" she replied back with a laugh as she brushed the foreboding thoughts away the best she could. Not that any of them would complain at this point; the sooner they got the hell out of here the better!
Continuing to laugh genuinely at Tony Stark's rather creative password guesses, Sawyer felt her mood lift and her mind become thankfully distracted with the more upbeat, joking conversation. "Oh 100%," she answered teasingly, "with 666 at the end for obvious reasons." She turned towards the wall, the sound of her laughter subsiding until a comfortable silence fell for a second. And gradually a softened smile formed on her lips while her skin tinted a light shade of pink. "So uh what you said earlier... about talking to Ethan," she began again, her brown eyes staring at the wall where she imagined Geoff to be. "How was he? You know- for the most part?"
She hoped she wasn't being too obvious in asking; obviously she was curious about a lot of things (one of those also being what Ethan said about her to Tony Stark) but most of all she wanted to know how he was doing. With both herself and Geoff being alone right now, she hoped he wasn't also suffering a roommate-less situation...
[OOC: Sawyer put the check "an old check for the purchase of furniture for room number 1 for an unknown (letters are erased with time) price dated November 2019" in her pocket]

The shared laughter echoed through what he presumed would be their equally empty rooms. Well, empty for now. He hoped that her roommate made it out the event okay. Who knew, maybe her "betrothed" would be roomed with her. Part of him wondered if Hannah would be roomed with him. No. That'd imply that she would be in an event, and he hated thinking of her going through an awful event. No, don't think about losing her, too. You lost Christina years ago. You may or may not have lost Kim. Don't make the same mistake that had women walk out of your life.
"So uh what you said earlier... about talking to Ethan," Sawyer said. "How was he? You know- for the most part?"
"Physically, he's okay. But mentally, he's trying to hang on. I don't blame him. There's been so much going on. But when he talked about, something changed. He was a bit more...lively when he talked about his friends. He seems like the kind of guy who would sacrifice a lot if it meant the loved ones would come out okay. He didn't have a roommate either, so I said if he needed someone to talk to I'd be here."
Maybe Ethan's roommate would be one of his good friends that was stuck in here. The more and more people were killed off, the more he felt like an old man amongst a group of young people. There were still older people like Noah, but he still couldn't help but feel like the black sheep of the group, and it wasn't because of the circumstance many of them had associated him with.

"Physically, he's okay. But mentally, he's trying to hang on," she heard Tony Stark answer back, his words causing the brunette to nod in understanding. She certainly didn't blame Ethan for that either; honestly it was extremely hard to stay sane with how fucked up everything was. It was terrifying to think that one second you might wake up to find out someone you care about isn't around anymore... And it not being just a one-time thing, but the potential for it to happen multiple times. Over and over again, to so many people you knew―
And the effect of losing that many friends and in such horrific ways? There weren't really words for it...
"Feels like I'm doing a bit of that too," Sawyer whispered back quietly, her heart hurting a little as she gripped her arms.
"But when he talked about you, something changed," Geoff's voice interrupted again, and immediately she looked up towards the wall once more, an openly curious expression on her face as she listened. "He was a bit more...lively when he talked about his friends."
Automatically Sawyer's chest warmed at the thought and she felt her lips pull up into a wide yet gentle smile. She hoped it was a bit the same for Ethan as it was for her; her friends always meant a lot to her of course! And she loved talking about them too. But it was hard not to smile and feel all mushy whenever she thought about him specifically or talked about him like she was now. Probably yet another reason why having a wall between her and Tony Stark wasn't all that bad; at least it could hide the telling blush in her face this way! "I'm glad he was," she said honestly, the warmth and slight giddiness evident in her tone.
Continuing to listen, however, the brunette instinctively let out a softened hum of agreement following Tony Stark's mention of Ethan being the kind of person to want to see his loved ones safe―mostly at the cost of himself. "Yeah, I think you're right there," she replied quietly, her mind begin to wander in remembrance. There was still a lot she didn't know about Ethan obviously, but the things she had discovered about him and gone through together so far proved how accurate that statement probably was. She fully believed that he had a lot of heart and a lot of love to give―even if he seemed to kinda hide that last part a little―and from how he talked about wanting to be a doctor, she knew he had a yearning to protect and help people. She wouldn't be surprised by him putting others' safety over himself as that was something she personally owed him her life for.
She only hoped he'd never sacrifice too much on that end, nor have to fully prove the extent of that statement either. He'd promised her he'd keep himself safe after all... And more than anything, she needed him to; he mattered too much to her now to lose him.
Frowning slightly at Geoff's next news, Sawyer felt her lift in mood fall a little. Damn, she thought as she lowered her gaze towards the floor, her chest aching. That was three people now who were missing from the rooms. And if she didn't already guess as to another 'game' going on, that definitely cemented it as a reality―and also further cemented her fears of those three being people she knew.
Thank God it's not Ethan or Geoff at least, she whispered in her mind as she let out a relieved breath. For as scared as she was about what horrors their roommates and anyone else dragged into this new 'game' would go through, she was genuinely more than glad to know that physically Ethan was still okay, and so close to where she was despite how frustrating it felt not being able to hug him or talk to him or simply be able to comfort him again like they'd done the past two weeks. She'd gotten so used to it now and relied on him and their mutual, shared comfort so much. Now with knowing he was alone like she was, she wanted so badly to be able to be there for him like he'd been there for her.
If it wasn't for those two damn walls separating them anyway.
Guess I'm jealous of Tony Stark there, she thought in strained amusement as she rested her head against the cold concrete. Being able to even hear Ethan's voice again and let him know she was okay too, like Geoff so easily could, was making her heart hurt a bit. Even though she was glad that he had someone there to talk to, she did wish there was a way that she could too... Maybe-
"Hey, Geoff?" Sawyer interrupted, her blush deepening slightly. "This is kind of an embarrassing question but um... Could you maybe uh- forward a message to him for me? If you talk to him again?" It was probably not the most comfortable scenario having someone she barely knew verbally passing on an essential 'love note' (or at least as close to one as she was daring to get anyway) like they were back in high school. Including for the poor engineer now-turned messenger boy!
But who knew when she'd next get the chance?

The way Sawyer spoke about Ethan was, well, heartwarming. She sounded so calm, not unlike he did whenever he talked about his friends. Heck, how many of the young people spoke about one another. But with Sawyer, this sounded more...connected. Like if something did happen to Ethan and she hadn't been able to stop it, she wouldn't forgive herself. He could relate to that feeling. Despite seeming calm and focused on getting answers about this crazy matchmaker, he still had that underlying fear of Kim's whereabouts. He could say she was safe and okay, but deep down he was truly worried. His confession of loving her had fallen on deaf ears.
There was always Hannah. He hadn't known her as long as he had known Kim, but the bond was there naturally. It may have been created by force, yet when he spoke to her, there had been no denying there was some chemistry between them. The same chemistry he had felt with Kim.
"Hey, Geoff?" Sawyer's questioning voice reverberated through the walls, "This is kind of an embarrassing question but um... Could you maybe uh- forward a message to him for me? If you talk to him again?"
He knew where this was going. Geoff was taken back to the fourth-grade schoolyard where kids played 'telephone'. Say something to your friends' ear, they passed it on and it went down the line. Messages got distorted, and sometimes where it ended up became something new. Instead of 'Suzie thinks you're cute,' the message had become something like 'Suzie doesn't like you'. An innocent oopsie daisy that wound up hurting a kid for life. Geoff had been good about relaying the message without messing anything up, but a part of him was annoyed. Wasn't relaying the message through people sort of...cowardly? Then again, this matchmaker was showing her disapproval behind gas pipes and blood laden events. That was far more cowardly and cruel than just asking for a message to be delivered.
"I'll pass it on, but I suggest finding a way of rewording what you tell me so you can tell him yourself. It'd be more personal coming out of your mouth than hearing it from a thirty-something engineer who can't even hold onto a woman."
Okay, that last part might have been too personal. Yet as he figured Sawyer wanted to tell Ethan something from the heart, he realized his bad luck with being with people in the romantic sense. First Christina, then Kim, and now Hannah, who was somewhere in this awful place.

"I'll pass it on, but I suggest finding a way of rewording what you tell me so you can tell him yourself. It'd be more personal coming out of your mouth than hearing it from a thirty-something engineer who can't even hold onto a woman."
Well that got... personal, Sawyer thought as she stared blankly at the wall. She wondered where that last comment happened to come from, though she figured it was related to the ex-finacee Geoff mentioned going to the musical with. Still his other words stood out to her as she felt her cheeks burn a little. "I don't think you have any worries there," she replied quickly in response to his suggestion to keep her 'confession brief', a slight laugh escaping her lips. "I just want him to know I'm still okay. And that I'm still keeping those promises."
Smiling a little to herself, her voice grew somewhat softer towards the end. She knew Ethan'd know what those promises were and what they meant without her having to say them out loud; which was a damn good thing too with how awkward and embarrassing it was asking the guy to pass along even that simple but heartfelt message―especially with his comment about it being 'personal'. Did Stark think I was gonna say something else?
Sawyer's brown eyes glanced at the wall, her heart racing a little faster from the implication. Tony Stark's words and tone definitely seemed to allude to him expecting some kind of love confession out of her, and that was more than enough to make the young brunette's embarrassment grow. She really liked Ethan a lot, but aside from telling Maya and Ethan that herself, disguised blushes and vague comments were as far as she was willing to go with confessing her feelings out loud in this place! She didn't want to put either of them in danger. Plus they were still getting to know each other and grow closer in that way too. She didn't know if a drastic confession like that was a bit too soon to say yet (and dangerous to make in their current situation, on top of it all) but she couldn't deny how fast yet strong and completely genuine those feelings she'd been growing for him were.
I really hope we get to have our date, she added internally as her heart seemed to warm inside her chest, so I can tell him that. No fear or forced marriages or death hanging over them all the time; just the two of them alone and matchmaker-less and able to say everything they wanted to say without keeping their feelings inside... Maybe then she could tell him how she actually felt, when this whole hell would finally be over. God please let it be over!
Glancing for a quick moment out the window at the bright sunlight beaming through to contrast starkly with the dark room, Sawyer turned back towards the wall where Geoff stood behind it, feeling grateful for his agreement to help. "I really appreciate it, Geoff," she went on to say warmly, hoping he recognized her sincerity. "Is there anything I can maybe pass on for you..? Or something I can maybe help with..?" She trailed off slightly, unsure if she should ask him if he had someone specific in mind―like a certain matched bride maybe?―that he was worried about. Obviously the brunette didn't have anyone else to talk to aside from him (far as she knew anyway) so passing a message on in the near future was a bit on the unknown side... But with him helping her out, the least she could do was offer him an ear (or a mouth) as well in case he was needing someone to talk to as much as she needed some company as well. God knows they all needed some of that here! "I've heard imma pretty good listener! And talker, clearly."

"I just want him to know I'm still okay. And that I'm still keeping those promises."
It didn't take someone that was an overthinker to know what Sawyer meant. She and Ethan had a strong bond, and being thrown in rooms just inches away was downright mean spirited. Then again, this was the same woman that had people who got 'matched' room together maybe once before splitting them up. Nothing about this made any sense. Giving people the smallest bit of hope, and doing the slightest favors for them to give them some comfort in this madhouse was the best he could do. Sawyer's message was heart-lifting.
"Is there anything I can maybe pass on for you..? Or something I can maybe help with..?"
Sawyer's question made Geoff stop and think. The last person who gave him any kind of support through it was Hannah. He thought about how she was. Was she scared? Did someone she know get killed? He wanted to see how was she was holding up. There was also Kim. But Sawyer was also in the loop of feeling concerned, and well, his confession had literally gone down the drain. No point in repeating it, especially with Kim being nowhere to be found. Asking Sawyer to tell Kim he cared was out of question.
"There is. If you run across Hannah...let her know that even though I'm not in the room with her physically, that I'm thinking about her, and am extending a hand to give her support."
That was clumsy as it could be, but it felt good saying it out loud. Yeah. this matchmaker was a killer, but she did bring people together. In a strange way, she was hurting herself with these matches. With each one made, she killed a confidante or a best friend. This spurned hatred for her. There were matches, and everyone was scared and ticked. There would be no way she could predict the matches turning against her. It was like an army of angry Claudies, and this time, simply getting fired wasn't the outcome.
"I've heard imma pretty good listener! And talker, clearly."
Geoff chuckled. "So I noticed. Makes being without a roommate a bit better."

"There is," Geoff confirmed, and Sawyer tilted her head curiously to listen in. "If you run across Hannah...let her know that even though I'm not in the room with her physically, that I'm thinking about her, and am extending a hand to give her support."
The urge to audibly 'awww' was hard to ignore from hearing a cute sentiment like that, and the brunette's lips couldn't help widening into a grin. Who knew Tony Stark had such a sweet side! "You got it," she promised, a rather playfully curious expression on her face as she glanced at the wall. It looked like her earlier statement about the guy being sweet on Hannah wasn't all that crazy after all! "I'll let her know if I see her."
Holding her mouth back from asking him any more juicy details, Sawyer continued to tease about herself, grateful for the opportunity to do something helpful at least. She had no idea when (or if) she'd meet Hannah face-to-face, but she wasn't one to back out of her promises!
The laughter from Geoff's side of the wall further lifted the room's mood, and following his agreement about her chatterbox-personality, she automatically let out a chuckle as well. Honestly she was feeling a bit better too―something surprising and shocking to say, but true nonetheless. "Glad my rambling's good for something!" she commented lightheartedly before her laughter gradually subsided into a calm silence. It really did feel nice to have a distraction from her thoughts and the loneliness of the empty space―even distractions of the former-suspect, engineer category. As far as their conversation had gone, the guy didn't really seem threatening and his surprising soft spots had caught the brunette off guard quite a bit. Maybe he might not be all that bad after all...

The duo shared a laugh again, but as Geoff’s laughs continued, a yawn fought it way through the chuckles. But hey, he couldn’t fall asleep just yet. He had a promise to Sawyer, and dang it, he was going to keep it.
”I’ll go relay the message, but, we’ll, don’t think this is goodbye. If I’m stuck alone again, I’ll knock again. Or if you ever want to talk, I’ll answer your knicks. Maybe we should find a way to make the Morse stuff a ringtone should we get out.”
With his promise fulfilled, he went over to give Ethan the message [end thread]
