PERCEPTION CHECK: Freya and Hannah look for something sturdy to fit between the wall to make the crack bigger.
RESULT: 6 - after searching the room up and down the girls finally found something. That something was hiding under the bed - it was a broken, only the top part of it left, walking cane carved out of some rich wood. A small golden figure shaped like a dog on the hilt was glistening in the light. Looked like it was custom-made! Could have this belong to one of the prisoners? Who knows!
The cane is pretty thick but the broken part can definitely fit in the crack.
You will need to roll a 9-10 to succeed in your upcoming action roll. Both Hannah and Freya have one safe try. You can try one more time after that BUT the cane will completely break under pressure if you roll anything lower than 10.

“A CRACK! Good eye Ethan,” Huxley praised him, and Ethan couldn't help but beam in spite of himself. He wasn't sure how he hadn't seen it earlier, but his doctor's eye hadn't failed him this time. It was even big enough to perhaps push something through, although a hug was clearly out of reach for now, as much as he wanted to be able to comfort both Freya and Hannah.
"Thank you Ethan, that is very kind of you. I would thank you more appropriately if it was not for the wall," Hannah said in response to his offer, and he nodded even though she couldn't see him.
"It's the least I could do. You've been through so much, might as well make it easier on you," he shrugged, "I'd want the same if it were me."
That much was true, even though the idea of divorce terrified him. It just... wasn't an option in his mind. His first wife, or husband, was going to be his only spouse. Or at least, he hoped, anyway...
As Hannah relayed more information about the wedding, he began to feel panic rise into his throat. So this whole marriage thing was official, they'd had witnesses and a certificate and everything. But what was the end goal here? Why was their captor marrying people off, and why specifically Geoff and Hannah? What was he missing here?
Huxley seemed to share in his confusion, as he began to mutter theories to himself. Ethan had none; their group was such a mishmash of varying ages, looks, occupations, and lifestyles that there seemed to be little common thread between them. The only thing he could think of was that a lot of them knew each other personally, but even then, there had been plenty of people he hadn't recognised. Why had they been taken and not others?
"I really don't understand all of this," he confessed finally, "Why were we all chosen? I'm a doctor in training, I don't exactly have the money for a ransom. Freya... you're a student, aren't you? Again, students aren't exactly known for having money. Professors and... uh, I'm not sure what you do Hannah, but you get what I mean? None of this makes any sense, we're not people who are generally rich enough to warrant a ransom, nor are we people who are hated so much that they'd do this to us. I just... don't get it."
Ethan sighed. All of this was absolutely doing his head in, not knowing what was going on or why. It was something so out of his control, and that scared him immensely.

The room the girls inhabited seemed as barren as she had suspected – with most places seemingly swiped clean (apart from those godforsaken books that she had rifled through). That was, until Freya wedged herself under the bed. Shuffling to the very back, where all the unswept dust seemed to have accumulated, she saw it.
Tucked securely away… was… a cane? Grabbing the object, the tiny girl wriggled from her position, and stared at the object in a glittering awe, her eyes alight in curiosity. An absolutely beautiful – yet very broken – cane, with a little golden dog at its hilt. Feeling the weight of the object between her fingers, she could tell at its prime it would have been uncomfortably heavy for her. But in its broken state she could wield the thing with ease.
Perhaps that could wedge in the crack? The wood had to be mahogany, or something sturdy. Granted it was broken, but it must have taken an immense amount of pressure to snap something so… stiff. Grinning in delight, Freya swung the thing around, though careful not to smack Hannah in the face. She’d love to grab that little dog ornament, even if the cane snapped. It seemed to be precious so someone – perhaps a little lucky pendant?
The girl paused as she heard Ethan’s voice through the wall, considering his words for a moment. “You got it,” she replied at Ethan’s statement of her ‘profession’. Well, she was also a little bookseller, not that that particularly changed anything. Her freelance work was also small and nothing to be raving about, especially on the terms of a ‘ransoming’.
“I… Y’know I’ve thought about this, and my head kept on coming back to human trafficking. Maybe that would make sense for some of us, but gosh, weddings? That would just make no sense. And why all the mind games? This has to have been conscripted by a few people… And for what purpose?” She smacked the cane against her hand repeatedly in thought, it making a satisfying sound against the skin of her palm. “Heh, the Saw movies also kept on (intrusively) going on in my head. But the same factor keeps creeping up. Weddings? Now all my theories are out the window. What? Is this just some rich people playing out a sick fantasy? Like we’re dolls in a torture dollhouse?! Honestly, I'm sick of it already!" Freya pointed the cane to the obvious camera, glinting at them in the corner of the room, threatening with its endless stare. She growled, bristling at the sight of it. “We’re people, you know! People!” She was sick of the unknowing of it all. Sighing in a frustration she believed was felt by all of them universally, she sent an apologetic smile to Hannah, for her outburst.
“Ethan, we found a cane. I’m gonna try and wedge it in to make the gap bigger. Just as a warning so… like… it doesn’t freak Huxley out.” And with that, Freya slid the cane into the cracked wall, and tugged harshly, hoping to pull down the plaster by a means of leverage and weight.
[Action roll: Freya tries pulling the wall down, or making a hole in the crack, by using the cane.]

ACTION ROLL: Freya tries pulling the wall down, or making a hole in the crack, by using the cane. RESULT: 4 – As much as she pulled and forced, the cane wasn’t wedging one bit, only serving to produce a sound very annoying to the ears. When she finally stopped, Freya could see that the crack in the wall was no bigger now than it had been before.
Hannah has one more safe try, for which she will need to roll a 9-10 to succeed in her upcoming action roll. You can try one more time after that BUT the cane will completely break under pressure if you roll anything lower than 10.

As freya wrapped her arms around her hannah couldn't help herself as she gently smiled. She gently placed her arms around the younger girl properly now as she held her in a close hug. She could only hope freya would calm down a little. As freya took a deep breath and thanked her she let out a small chuckle. "Ofcourse sweetheart" she said giving her hands a gentle squeeze before letting go of her and getting up nodding at freyas statement to go look for something useful.
She looked up at the small crack that barely was big enough for pieces of paper. Freya was already searching around the room to see if she could find anything. If only hannah was wearing heels or something. She listened to ethan speak as she nodded. "Don't worry. I know what you mean. Teachers how valuable they might be do not get paid enough" she said as she shrugged. She looked at freya who was on her belly looking under the bed. "Uhm freya please be careful you don't know what could have happend on that floor you are getting your face close to.." she said in a worried tone. However freya got up again, a bit dusty but she had indeed found something. "Wow..! Good eye freya!" She complimented her friend.
Freya made her way to the wall. "That could have been an option but you are right.. the marriage does not make sense if that would have been it" hannah said. When freya went off about the saw movies hannah frowned a bit. "You wouldn't think.. this is some kind of.. how did they call it.. deep web, or dark web sort of thing? I had this student once pitching a horror story about how people used to pay others to see them act out things with other people. You know like.. paying money to see people get hurt" She said as she was already scaring herself with that thought. She looked up as freya started to shout to the camera in the room. Hannah felt a pit in her stomach. "Freya.. please.. youre right but.. don't give them any reasons to have a grudge against you" she said softly. However. Was that not exactly what they were doing by trying to make this hole? She looked at freya as she tried everything to make the hole bigger. It honestly looked dangerous. "Freya.. freya dear.." she gently placed a hand on her shoulder. She did not want her to hurt herself. "You are going to hurt yourself" she said.
The whole idea however seemed important to her. Hannah sighed. "Here I'll try.. who knows maybe its the same as sculpting" she tried to stay optimistic. She would show freya she was on her side by trying the whole hole thing for her. Even if that might get her in trouble with the camera.

ACTION ROLL: Hannah tries to make the crack wider as if she was working on a sculpture. RESULT: 2 – Hannah applied all of her artistic expertise to the task, moving the item in her hands against the hard wall as she would in her atelier, but to no avail. As arduously as she tried, that crack simply wasn’t widening at all! The more she kept going, the more she could sense that the cane wouldn’t be able to take much more of this treatment.
You are out of safe tries. You can try one more time BUT the cane will completely break under pressure if you roll anything lower than 10.
